About Alexander Berry-Santoro

Alexander Berry-Santoro

JD Candidate

Alexander (Alex), is a JD Candidate who recently graduated from Western Michigan University’s Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and passed his bar exam on the first try. Alex will be admitted to the Michigan Bar around April, 2017.

Prior to Law School, Alex went to Eastern Michigan University, and Central Michigan University where he was in the honors college and leadership institute. Alex Graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Law with a focus in prelaw. He wrote his senior thesis on “Jury Nullification Throughout the Ages.”

During his time in law school, Alex won the Leadership Achievement Award for his involvement in a diverse array of student activities (from being a bar association senator to being President of Moot Court), got his certificate in mediation training from the SCAO, and spent two semesters clerking at a law firm in Dexter, Michigan. During law school, Alex found a passion for researching the law. Alex excelled in Research and Writing and took classes in Advanced Legal Writing, as well as research classes directed at unique issues of Michigan Law.

Alex, however, feels that his biggest achievements lie outside the world of academics. Alex, is a man who has a strong belief that the underdog’s rights are more important than those of the establishment. He showed that by volunteering years of his time to the Public Defender’s Office of Washtenaw County.

Before Alex even earned his law license, he had spent many hours defending those who could not afford an attorney. During his time at the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Office, Alex negotiated reductions of dozens of felony charges to low misdemeanors without the possibility of jail time.

In Alex’s free time, he continues to give to his community. Alex currently coaches the Dexter High School Mock Trial team, volunteers for the Michigan Supreme Court Learning Center, is testing for his black belt in Hakko Denshin Ryu Jujitsu, and spends time with his lovely wife and dog.
